Sheffield tree campaigners win compensation for unlawful arrest

It’s almost exactly two years since I wrote my first advice in the Sheffield tree campaign (a copy of which you can find in the ‘resources’ section on this site). Brave campaigners were being arrested by South Yorkshire Police under an obscure trade union law for the ‘crime’ of peacefully standing under trees; by sticking to their guns and refusing to be intimidated with a seemingly wrongful use of the law, these campaigners saved hundreds of trees.

Reading the story below, its good to know that my advice, and the campaigner’s sense, that the arrests by the police were unlawful has been fully vindicated.
